Sydney Poitier portrays Ben Munceford, a LIFE magazine style photojournalist, who bears witness to actions and events spiraling out of control.
Although by this point Poitier had been making films for 15 years, this was the first film in which his race was neither mentioned nor relevant.
Richard Widmark, who had the role of the Bedford's tyrannical captain, was also producer of the film. Director and Co-producer James Harris had
previously worked with Stanley Kubrick- and it shows!
Translates as 'A strange adventure of silence and danger'. The French title winds up being 'At Combat Stations'
