1970 ... French postcards from the South Pacific!
These are sequential photographs of the 1970 French, Force de Frappe, 918 kiloton H-bomb test.
It was conducted at Fangataufa Atoll, French Polynesia. Codenamed 'Licorne' (Unicorn). TN-60
warhead, designed for the French Navy's Ballistic Missile submarines, suspended at 1600 ft. from a large balloon. The first photo is famous for it's huge donut cloud of condensed humidity. Few places are as humid as the South Pacific.
"What?! French H-bombs! French speaking submarines with big missiles! What!?!" Yes; you need to be nice to the French!
